Japan Public Relations Institute received honorable mention at the 2006 Asia Pacific PR Week Awards, category of Marketing Communications (consumer). The ceremony took place on November 16, 2006 at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong.
JPRI, a public relations agency specialized PR services for public institutions, earned honorable mention for its tourism PR program, “Revitalizing the Izu brand.” The annual Asia Pacific PR Week Awards is one of the most treasured prizes in the area of public relations. Nominees come from around the Asia Pacific, including countries such as Australia, China, Korea, India, and Japan, each leading PR agencies in their countries. The judges include directors of communication for multinational corporations, executives from PR agencies, the editor-in-chief from PR Week US, members of the academia. All nominees are required to be internationally competitive.
“Revitalizing the Izu brand” is a comprehensive project performed by the Tourism and Convention Office of Shizuoka Prefectural Government, aiming to revitalizing the spa resort area of Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture as tourist attractions. JPRI, responsible for the marketing and PR program under this project, devised various ideas to re-brand and revitalize the area. Linda Tsui, vice president of Hong Kong Public Relations Professionals' Association and a judge for the award, made a comment upon JPRI's program as follows. “This is a well-made PR strategy for tourism. Through the reviewing process, it made me want to go to Izu as a tourist. This program has achieved good results and deserves media exposure and this honorable mention.”
